How To Stop Blushing

How to Avoid Blushing at Inappropriate Times

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Blushing, it happens to everyone. But what do you do when it happens more than normal? This article is going to explain some simple tricks to avoid blushing and fight the fear of getting red in the face.

Steps

  1. Remember that blushing is completely normal. It is usually caused by a number of factors which are mostly caused as a result of a person’s mentality. An awkward moment, a mistake, or even an odd thought can trigger people to blush. It is quite difficult to control a blush once it begins and essentially it is unhealthy to want to anyway. We are all human. However there are things a person can do before in order to minimize blushing and control any social situation when blushing occurs.
  2. Relax. Tension allows blushing to increase. The second you feel yourself begin to blush immediately relax all your muscles. You can’t be entirely in control once you begin to get red, but you can prevent your face from becoming a cherry tomato! Practice by trying to blush in front of a mirror and relaxing your shoulders. This will help you see how you will handle the situation on real life.
  3. Accept it. If you are talking to someone and it happens, just say it and move on. If you tell the person and get on to the next subject, chances are it won’t be as troublesome. Make it short and move on. People will see that you are comfortable despite the fact that you are blushing and they won’t tease you.
  4. Avoid feeling embarrassed. The more a person hides his or her blushing and is conscious of it, the more it will probably occur. When you are talking, dancing, or whatever it may be, just go with the flow. Say to yourself “Well, I’m blushing right now. No big deal.” Self-acceptance goes a long way. Say to yourself words of encouragement like “this is no big deal”, “I am amazing”. the words you say in your mind will become true.
  5. Prevention. If you blush often or during a particular activity (public speaking anyone?) do these visualizing activities before you go to bed. Imagine all the situations where you blush. Imagine how other people think of you; imagine they see the thing that is making you embarrassed. Think about why it makes you embarrassed. How embarrassing is it? The more you do this activity, the more you will be comfortable with yourself and eventually around others.
  6. Turn blushing into a game. Try to see how red you can make yourself. More often than not, this will actually reduce how red you will become.
  7. Wash your face and apply a thin film of oil-free moisturizer (if not the makeup will dry out your skin.) This also keeps your face cool which is good if the blushing burns.

Tips

  • If worse comes to worst, go to the nearest bathroom or kitchen and put a damp cloth on your face... an air conditioner will also do the trick.
  • Do as many social things as possible. The more comfortable you are around people, the less you will blush. Guaranteed. Interacting with humans makes life more special and will simply make you a better and more interesting person.
  • Get a tan as to reduce the clarity of the blush.
  • If you blush every time you are even in the same room as your crush, or talking to them especially, you probably get as red as Santa's pants. That type of blushing can be so intense it is unavoidable. The only thing you can do in this situation is wear make-up, works like a charm.
  • Try casually covering your cheek with your hand if you feel a blush coming on and can't prevent it.
  • Also realize that people really don't tend to notice.

Warnings

  • Don't quit. If you blush and begin to get nervous then you are quitting. Life is about taking risks. You will miss out on many things if you allow this to control how you interact with others.
  • Don't be too hard on yourself, getting rid of habits isn't easy.
  • Do NOT attempt to hide the blushing with makeup. This never works and usually the tendency is to go overboard to make sure you're covered which looks terrible. If you're a chronic blusher, people will know what you're attempting to do.
